EXECUTIVE CHEF: Josh WiestOUR STORY: Upon entering this uptown Westerville bistro, diners will take a step back in time to 1927 when the building was home to a black and white silent movie theater. The décor at 8 State Bistro is designed to celebrate the history and heritage of the old theater while also setting the stage for new culinary talent. The dining experience allows guests to eat well while remaining casual and comfortable.

Executive Chef Josh Wiest feels it is important to provide quality food while expanding the palates of the restaurant’s guests at the same time. The cuisine does not venture too far or become too exotic, but it does offer a combination of basic ingredients with an unusual twist. The chef-driven menu is changed seasonally in order to offer the freshest ingredients. The dining experience at 8 State Bistro begins when guests enter the lobby, which houses original photographs showcasing the movies and actors that were once featured at the theater.

Guests who choose to enjoy a cocktail at the bar will be dazzled by the classic cocktails, fresh ingredients and generous wine and craft beer lists available. During the meal, diners can also watch the black and white movies that are projected on one of the building’s original exposed brick walls. This upscale bistro is just what uptown Westerville was lacking—an elegant, yet casual dining experience without the lengthy travel time.

Cool facts

Movie memorabilia in the lobby was
donated by two sisters who regularly
attended movies at the theater.

The space was previously occupied by
Amish Originals Furniture Co., and all of
the tables and chairs were purchased
from them in an effort to continue to
support the history of the space.

The artwork that hangs on the walls in the
dining area was painted by a local artist
using photographs of marquees from
cities in the United States.

through Friday from 4-7 p.m. featuring a
signature martini special, cocktail
specials, wine and craft beer specials and
half off small plates.
