Meredith Crane, founder of Keepsake Theme Quilts (KTQ) and mother to two deaf children always wanted her children to be able to succeed at something with no communication barriers.  She was frustrated with the lack of opportunities available to them in the job market. When her children were young, Meredith began a quest to find things for her children to participate in that would allow them to experience life without the frustration of the inability to communicate.  She founded Deaf Initiatives, Inc. to offer training, workshops and employment opportunities to deaf individuals. As her children became older, she found that the job market for the deaf community was limited, and she wanted more for her children. “One of the most challenging problems for the deaf in the workplace is facing the demands of the hearing establishment,” says Meredith. “The workplace is organized around hearing people, and when a deaf individual enters that workplace, adjustments have to be made to provide 100% accessibility.”
