How did your company get started?
I have been working in the field of residential architecture in Central Ohio for more than 20 years. Simplified Living Architecture started in 2008 when I was pregnant with the first of my two children. I knew then that I wanted to have the flexibility in my life to be present in their lives while they were young. Having my own company has allowed me the opportunity to be active in my kids young lives while still enjoying a career that I absolutely love and brings me so much joy. It’s been all about creating balance.
What makes your company unique?
Peace. Calm. Happiness.
These values drive everything I do. I believe your home is a place of peace and order where you can renew your body and spirit; a sanctuary that brings you and your family happiness, joy and love.
It doesn’t matter if the home has less than 1,000 square feet or more than 10,000 square feet, if it doesn’t function well it will cause you frustration and stress. Clutter creates chaos and if we have learned anything from 2020 it is that we need less chaos in our lives. I love creating spaces within the home to allow for organization and storage. I have created a home management center for the mail to be dropped and for charging of technology. A mudroom for coats, shoes, backpacks, and winter accessories.
A pantry that is large enough for some of your small appliances like the toaster, can opener, blender and coffee pot. It is essential to create spaces that function to meet a family’s lifestyle. I think through not only what is in a space, also how it’s going to be used.
When designing homes my main goal is always to inspire our clients, nurture families, and create more happiness and joy in their lives. When a home is designed to function for how you live it creates a comfortable retreat that inspires you every time you arrive home.
We specialize in custom homes, whole house renovation and addition projects ranging in size from quaint cottages to large estates. We believe every project needs to seamlessly align with the client’s lifestyle to create a perfectly functioning home, regardless of how many spaces are contained within it.
Why is this your passion?
Like most people I grew up in a home with compartmentalized spaces, and all the activities that happened within the home were separated. I like to create spaces that are open and provide a sense of togetherness so family members are not disconnected as they cook, watch television, read or do homework.
I’m currently in the process of writing a book about the work that I do, creating homes that create happiness. Homes shape lives; they influence our mood, energy, our interactions with others, our character, personality, and our identity. At the heart of what I do, I transform lives through transforming homes. I’m excited to share these ideas in my upcoming book, Creating Happiness!
